The Social Development Minister says police may not collect specific data on crime in and around emergency housing, but are aware of local hotspots.
Neither the police nor MSD is actively monitoring incidents of crime, violence or family harm in this specific type of government-funded accommodation, but do encourage people to come forward if they feel at risk.
Demand continues to grow, but so do serious concerns about safety, with some families living in motels rife with crime, and little support in sight.
Minister Carmel Sepuloni told Political Editor Jane Patterson ministers are taking action.
