Church lawyers are pressuring the Royal Commission of inquiry into abuse to narrow the scope of its investigation.
In response, the commission has asked for submissions about its scope, infuriating a survivors' group so much it has pulled out.
This comes as the inquiry undergoes a reset after the government knocked back its bid for more time - and to increase the budget to almost half a billion dollars.
