Official forecasts show secondary schools will need 260 more teachers next year just to meet increased enrolments.
The schools are expected to grow by more than 7000 students in 2022 and will also need teachers to replace those who retire or leave for other reasons.
Steve Hargreaves from the Auckland Secondary Principals Association told RNZ education correspondent John Gerritsen he does not know where the extra staff will come from.
