As New Zealand grapples with inflation at is higest level in a decade, with consumer prices up 2.2 percent in the three months ended September, vegetable prices have played a significant role in the increase.
They have risen 19 percent - the jump was influenced by higher prices for tomatoes, lettuce, and broccoli.
Lincoln University professor of Agribusiness, Hamish Gow says the government's policy on produce businesses and vegetable market closures during lockdowns have played a role in the price increases.
He spoke to Morning Report.
