If you think Disney's The Little Mermaid accurately portrays what it sounds like under the sea you're in for a shock, but filmmakers did get one thing right, marine animals can have regional dialects.
We know that thanks to researchers who have studied the sounds of ocean species.
Now nine experts are calling on citizen scientists to record sounds from the sea to help better understand aquatic life.
Contributions will be entered in the Global Library of Underwater Biological Sounds, or 'GLUBS'.
University of Auckland researcher Craig Radford spoke to Corin Dann.
