A multimillion-dollar investigation into truck safety inspections has uncovered some shockingly bad welding and other dangers signed off by specialist engineers.
The highly controversial inquiry was sparked in 2018 when transport agency NZTA Waka Kotahi was exposed for having been too slack as road regulator.
But the investigation has in turn sparked accusations of secrecy, bullying and nitpicking by the agency.
