Condemnation of Russian aggression in the Ukraine has been backed up by action - a barrage of sanctions from the West.
Germany has frozen a new gas pipeline while Britain announced sanctions on three Russian billionaires and five of its banks.
The EU and US are also close to unveiling a raft of penalties. It comes in response to Moscow's recognition of two separatist regions in eastern Ukraine - a move that has put Europe on the brink of conflict.
Fears of war have been stoked by reports of shelling and movements of unmarked tanks in the city of Donetsk.
Kiev correspondent Jessica Golloher spoke to Corin Dann.
