Up to 10,000 Japanese fans will be allowed to watch from the sidelines at venues hosting the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.
Despite warnings of a further outbreak, organisers confirmed that crowds are permitted as long as they do not exceed 50 percent of a venue's capacity.
Fans will not be allowed to shout or speak loudly and they must wear face marks at all times.
CNN sports presenter Alex Thomas spoke to Morning Report.
