US marks one year since George Floyd's death - a podcast by RNZ

People across the United States are marking one year since the murder of George Floyd at the hands of the police.
Floyd was killed by then-police officer Derek Chauvin, who held his knee on the unarmed black man's neck for nearly nine minutes - an event which was captured on video.
Chauvin was convicted of murder and manslughter in April 2021 and is set to be sentenced in June.
A crowd is gathering right now at the scene of the murder - which is now called George Floyd Square.
Former US president Barack Obama tweeted today that "More people in more places are seeing the world more clearly than they did a year ago."
The family of George Floyd will meet US president Joe Biden and vice president Kamala Harris today.
His brother Philonise Floyd told CNN the day was a chance to acknowledge those who had supported the family and honoured the memory of George.
Marc Morial is the President and chief executive of the National Urban League, a historic civil rights and advocacy organisation in the United States.
