Wellington City Council is looking at a major shakeup of its housing stock, claiming it could make it more affordable for both tenants and the Council.
A vote today could be the first step establishing a new Community Housing Provider which would take over the running of social and affordable homes.
It would also qualify for more central government cash, but some councillors say they don't want to give up a long history of social housing.
RNZ's Harry Lock reports.
