The West Coast has endured a night of heavy rain that smashed last week's record falls.
One hundred and sixty millimetres of rain fell overnight.
The Metservice meterologist, Lewis Ferris told Morning Report while last week's rain in the Buller District was bad - it's been worse over the past 24 hours.
Residents of two households have had to be evacuated from their homes in Waimangaroa north of Westport after a slip was threatening their properties and a number of roads in the Buller District have been closed.
