Many shocked and tired Westport residents are getting mentally prepared for the task ahead of drying out, repairing or replacing their waterlogged homes.
Dozens of houses have been red-listed as having severe or irreparable damage, while others have yellow stickers allowing entry on urgent business only.
More than 150 people are staying at evacuation centres in Westport.
Peter Rainton and Vivienne Hewitt are among those who spent last night at the Westport South School evacuation centre.
