New court documents filed in the United States say the cruise passengers hurt and killed in the Whakaari eruption weren't fully warned about the dangers.
Twenty-two people were killed when the volcano, off the coast of Whakatane, erupted in December 2019.
Florida lawyer Michael Winkleman is representing several plaintiffs against the US-based cruise company Royal Caribbean and Whakatane's White Island Tours.
He spoke to our reporter Katie Todd.
