CPC leadership candidate Dr. Kellie Leitch is suggesting regular national referendums, which would be entirely citizen-driven and in which a simple majority would determine whether new legislation would be required to be introduced and passed by the federal government, or existing legislation amended. Opponents are ridiculing the idea.

In two weeks, Alberta will see its provincial carbon tax introduced and Ontario will implement its cap and trade scheme.
