Over the past weeks we've heard of the heroic bravery displayed by CAF Private Jess Larochelle in Afghanistan in October 2014 and that a motion to award Private Larochelle Canada's highest military honour, the Canadian Victoria Cross was defeated by the Liberals in parliament. Last Sunday Maj Gen Omer Lavoie who commanded the Canadian forces in that battle in October 2014 joined us and detailed what Jess Larochelle did that day. Today we're joined by Bruce Moncur the former CAF corporal who arguably led the fight for the CVC for Private Larochelle. Cpl Moncur was a platoon-mate to Private Larochelle and on this date, September 4, 2006 Cpl Moncur, in Afghanistan for only 3 weeks was hit in th head by friendly fire from an American A10 fighter jet. Moncur's brain was exposed and he believed he was about to die. He was 22 years of age. After surviving multiple surgeries Veterans Affairs Canada would provide Bruce Moncur with a cheque for $22,000. He lost parts of his brain, was shot in the back.
