Kings vs Clippers and Wolves 3/4/23, Kings split back to back, defense remains an issue - a podcast by Owen and Fong Legacy

The Kings faced the Clippers on the 1st of a back to back in the G1C. It was their much anticipated rematch from last Friday's insane contest. While neither team scored over 170 this time, there was still plenty of scoring to go around. The result was the same however, with the Kings winning with a measly 128 points to beat the Clippers. 

The Kings looked like they were running away with the game after going up 12 with 5:26 to go, but the Clippers went on a 17-6 run to briefly take the lead with a under a minute to go. But the Kings punched back, trading the lead back and forth before ultimately winning with some clutch Sabonis free throws. It wasn't pretty, and the ending was a bit too close for comfort, but the Kings got what they came for, a win.

That could not be said for the 2nd game of a back to back, where the Kings lost against the visiting Timberwolves. The Kings defense was a step slow the entire game, and the Wolves were red hot from 3 the entire game, a tough combination for the Kings to overcome. The Kings were down for much of the game but came roaring back to make this a game in the 4th quarter but just couldn't get over the hump.

This loss is by no means devastating but it does highlight an issue that have been plaguing the Kings all season, their defense. When the Kings are scoring well, they can overcoming a lot of their defensive shortcomings, and it's not like their offense was bad this game. They shot 55% FG and 52% 3FG, but they allowed the Wolves to shoot 60% FG and 51% 3FG. 

It's an issue that needs to be addressed and this deep into the season, it's unlikely the Kings will be able to do it. But if they want to make a playoff run, their defense needs to get better.
