The Kings welcomed the Suns into G1C for the 2nd time this season and ... it started out ugly. The Suns were absolutely dissecting the Kings. Kings could not contact Booker at all, and CP3 absolutely sliced up the Kings defense with his passing. On top of all that, the Suns out rebounded the Kings and beat them to what felt like every loose ball. The only saving grace for the Kings was that the Suns didn’t shoot well from 3. This culminated in the Kings trailing 56-67 at the half. Coming out of halftime, it was more of the same to start, the Kings scored ok but couldn’t get stops.

But then … a series of weird/favorable call go the King’s way and the Suns lost their mind. A technical foul by Devin Booker followed by a Chris Paul technical ignited the G1C and the Kings would proceed to go on a 36-19 run in the span of 8 and a half minutes.

They would ride that momentum into the 4th, and ultimately hold off the Suns to win their 44th game of the season and even the season series. The Kings have not lost 3 in a row since November and that trend continues as the Kings keep showing that in the face of adversity, they respond with grit and resilience.

The next night, the Kings would avenge their loss from earlier in the week against Jazz in the G1C. This game was very similar to the Suns game, in that the Kings allowed the other team to dictate the style and pace of the game. The Jazz went to their zone, and the Kings really struggled to score against it in the first half. And the Kings defense just like in the Suns game, let the Jazz get whatever shot they wanted, and so the Kings were down 6 at halftime.

But like in the Suns game, the Kings turned it up in the 3rd quarter to take the lead and never look back. It’s another game in which the Kings showed resiliency and toughness in the face of adversity. But also, they showed an ability to problem solve as a team, coming out of halftime, they made a concerted effort to attack the seams in the zone and it opened up the offense and turned the tide back in their favor. These are things that good teams do and the Kings have proven many times this season that they are indeed a good team.

The Kings pick up their 45th win of the season and can clinch a playoff berth on Monday with a win against the Timberwolves.
