Recognising the vital role of social interactions, the Australian government has taken a proactive step by endorsing the 'Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS).' This initiative specifically caters to the needs of elderly individuals from diverse linguistic, cultural, and vulnerable backgrounds who face an increased risk of social isolation. The program facilitates volunteer visits aimed at offering companionship and fostering friendships for older adults. It's mutually beneficial, enriching the lives of both seniors and younger volunteers. 'Tabulam and Templer Homes for the Aged,' primarily serving the German-speaking community in Melbourne, actively participates in this scheme. They eagerly seek volunteers interested in forging new connections and friendships. SBS spoke with Lisa Karstens, the Client Liaison Officer, to learn more about the importance of this heartwarming initiative. - Ältere Menschen in Seniorenheimen und häuslicher Pflege leben häufig sozial isoliert und fühlen sich einsam. Dabei sind soziale Kontakte für die seelische Gesundheit so wichtig. Vor diesem Hintergrund unterstützt die australische Regierung Organisationen und Pflegeeinrichtungen mit dem im Juli ins Leben gerufenem „Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS)“. Das Programm zielt unter anderem darauf ab, ältere Personen mit der jüngeren Generation in den Kontakt zu bringen. Dadurch sollen enge Freundschaften entstehen. Beide Seiten können davon profitieren - Alt und Jung. Am Programm beteiligt ist auch der überwiegend deutschsprachige Anbieter für Altenpflege „Tabulam and Templer Homes for the Aged“ in Melbourne.
