Some Jewish leaders in Australia expressed unease over the Labor Parties moving of its established resolution on the recognition of a Palestinian State up to their policies platform, although Labor parliamentarians insisted that the party’s bipartisan stance on the issue has not changed and that the ALP remains a strong supporter and friend of Israel.

Jewish community representatives met with Victorian Government and Victoria Police reps to discuss their role in a taskforce designed to combat the growth of antisemitism and racism in the State.

The largest ever bequest made to a Jewish organization in Australia that of $25m, was made to Jewish Care in NSW by the late Julia Lowy e”h, a survivor of the Holocaust and Hungarian Communist tyranny, who with her husband opened a number of very successful restaurants and hotel after settling in Sydney in 1957.
