McKenzie Milton and Jermaine Johnson talk Florida State Seminoles football and Mike Norvell for the first time with FSU media.

Milton transcript:

“Just seeing the logo kind of speaks for itself. Competing against coach Norvell while he was at Memphis…seeing how he carried himself as a coach.”

On injury: “It's something that I reflect on. But at the same time, I am just trying to live in the moment and enjoy this year at FSU. Enjoy this time with new coaches and new teammates, support staff. It has been a lot of fun so far.”

Norvell’s offense: “The QB’s have a lot of control over what goes on. We won’t play with as much tempo as I have been accustomed to. I feel like I can get us in the right plays. I am still learning, but I have learned so much in the past 2 weeks.”

Being a leader: “You

can’t just come in and expect these guys to listen to everything you have to say. You have to show your work effort, coming in early and leaving late, leading by example. You want to lead by action and I just want to put my best foot forward for this team and hopefully, we will have some success in the fall.”

On FSU tradition: “Shoot, it is just something that you dream about as a kid playing at a school like this. Coach Bowden, Charlie Ward, Jameis Winston. It speaks for itself. The history behind here is second to none in my opinion.”

The recruitment for FSU: “The conversations started soon after I put my name in the portal. I think it only took about a week to decide. This just felt right for me, that’s why I chose Florida State.”

On relationship to Norvell “The only time I ever met him was at the AAC media days, going into the 2018 season. I just shook his hand, and we both had respect for each other. I knew what he was about as a coach and his program. He ran a great program at Memphis.”

More on Norvell: “When I got hurt, he and his whole team actually signed a ball for me, that was a cool gesture. Coach Norvell is a class act. They were our opponent the next week after I got hurt. At the end of the day, football is one community.”

On the other QB’s: “Its been good, they have all been great. Super cool guys. When they are cracking jokes I am cracking jokes too. They are all good kids, really good athletes. I think they all have a lot of potential. I can help them take their game to the next level and they can help me take my game to the next level.”

On bringing FSU back: “Absolutely. Kind of similar to UCF. They were kind of in a rough patch [before he got there]. It’s a similar deal here. There is a lot of talent here, great coaching. It's about playing as one unit. All the tools and pieces are here for success. I think we have the right leader in coach Norvell. I have full trust in them and I have full trust in this team. I feel like the better we come together and keep working, the better chance we will have this fall.”

“I expect to be fully prepared and to compete in the spring. I am super excited to compete with these guys, the other QB’s. I feel great, I feel ready to go. If we had to play this weekend, I would be ready to go.”
