Hello everyone, happy Monday -- welcome to Noles News Now, the latest updates in Florida State athletics, presented by Tomahawk Nation
On the football side of things, defensive lineman Quashon Fuller was removed from the team and is expected to enter the transfer portal soon, following players like linebacker Jadarius Green-McKnight, defensive back Jarvis Brownlee, defensive back Hunter Washington, tight end Koby Gross, wide receiver Jordan Young, and running back Corey Wren who have all entered the portal this semester. The NFL Draft is this week -- defensive end Jermaine Johnson is basically a guarantee to be a first-round selection -- most mocks have him in the teens, as high as No. 4 to New York -- though most have him as a potential pick at 10 for the Jets. Other names include Seattle at No. 9, Houston at 12 or Philly at 13
Jashaun Corbin and Keir Thomas are two Seminoles who could also hear their names called-- the draft starts thursday and runs through SundayIn basketball -- our Max Escaprio interviewed transfer Darin Green Jr over the weekend -- stay posted for the audio, video and write-up coming to Tomahawk this week
Former Seminole Scottie Barnes was named the NBA’s Rookie of the Year after averaging 15.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in his first seasonIt was a big weekend for FSU softball, taking on the Clemson Tigers for the first time in program history -- Clemson’s softball program began in 2020 -- No. 5 FSU swept the 17th-ranked Tigers, adding even more strength to a ridiculous resumeNot as much luck for the baseball team, who lost a series-deciding game three off of an error-filled eighth inning. FSU has had an up and down year, seemingly dominant at times but failing to string consistent performances together where the bats and arms are clicking at the same time.
In other Seminoles sports…Six Florida State distance runners — Matthew Owens, Amanda Beach, Caleb Pottorff, Silas Griffith, Zach Leachman, Paul Stafford, Rebecca Clark and Erin Phelps — posted FSU all-time top ten performances Saturday night in Charlottesville.
As for track and fiel, Sara Zabarino posted the best mark of her career in the javelin, the third-best in school history, while Amani Heaven shattered her personal record in the shot put, placing her 8th all-time at FSU.The Florida State men’s golf team fell to No. 2 seed Georgia Tech, 3-1-1, in the ACC Men’s Golf Championship Semifinals on Sunday at Shark’s Tooth Golf Course in Panama City — the Seminoles find out where they will be headed for NCAA Regional play on Wednesday.
