When a person refers to the expert opinion of one of the classical scholars and their respective schools of thought he or she is considered by certain people to be one who has abandoned the Qur??n and ?ad?th.

In order to correctly apply the teachings of the Qur??n and ?ad?th it is impossible, according to the classical scholars and the clear majority of the great body of Muslim scholars of the ummah, to simply read the Arabic or the translation of the Qur??n and ?ad?th and thereby understand the laws of religion. Similar to any other field of learning, there is an obligation upon us to resort to the understanding of the experts. This is where the role of fiqh comes in; fiqh is simply the distilled knowledge of the Qur??n and ?ad?th by expert scholars. Unfortunately, today, when it comes to the Qur??n and ?ad?th, everybody becomes an expert and has an opinion except for the true experts themselves, the scholars of Isl?m. What a tragedy!
