Following unrelenting persecution and fear for his life, the Messenger of All?h ? eventually fled the city of Makkah to Mad?nah. This strenuous and burdensome journey took a number of days and marked the beginning of the Isl?mic calendar. It was a miraculous journey and a watershed, not only for the Muslims, but also for the history of the entire world. It was in Mad?nah that Isl?m gained prominence and spread to the four corners of the world. It is due to this sacred journey and the Prophet’s ? unprecedented sacrifices that Isl?m remains with us today.
