On this episode we are joined by Bill Wagner of the Annapolis Capital, special guests—- NASA astronaut Nicole Aunapu Mann '99 about her time as a member of the women’s soccer team and about the latest SpaceX launch. We also chat about the strong bond shared by Navy Rugby alumni with Chris Hoffman '96 and Chris Cleary '96, as they continue to fund the sport at USNA and help it grow nationally. Chris Cleary - 96Chris Cleary became the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Department of the Navy in October 2019.

The Department of the Navy’s first Chief Information Security Officer Christopher Cleary entered his position as the head of one of four new directorates under the DON Chief Information Officer and Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy for Information Management, Aaron Weis.As the DON’s Chief Information Security Officer, Cleary is responsible for maintaining the security of DON data and information, regardless of where it resides. He is also responsible for meeting communication security standards, implementing management solutions, setting policy and standards across the DON enterprise, and ensuring DON alignment to the Department of Defense cybersecurity architecture.

Mr. Cleary is a 1996 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.He was a two-time All American Rugby player at Navy. He was a Surface Warfare Officer, and eventually transitioned to Intel and affiliated in the reserves.Chris Hoffman - 96

Chris Hoffman served as the Deputy Director, Center for Cyber Security Studies, at the U.S. Naval Academy from May 2017 to May 2020. He developed and executed a ground-breaking curriculum for the education and professional training of junior military leaders in the cyber domain. He was responsible for cyber operations academic curriculum, private equity partnership, and US Naval operational training of 4,000 officer candidates per year.He was commissioned in 1996 and became a Surface Warfare Officer.
He was a four-year Rugby player at USNA and remains very involved with the Rugby alumni events. He recently accepted a position with Red Jack, a cyber operations firm in Reston, Va. He will retire after 24 years of honorable active duty service September 1, 2020.Nicole Aunapu Mann - 99
Nicole Aunapu Mann was selected by NASA in June 2013. She is currently training for the crew flight test of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, the first crewed flight for that vehicle. Mann and her crewmates are working closely with Boeing to develop their new spacecraft systems, which will provide roundtrip crew transportation services to the International Space Station and, along with SpaceX’s CrewDragon, return the ability to launch humans into space from United States soil.The Petaluma, California native holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Mann is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps and served as a test pilot in the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet. She deployed twice aboard aircraft carriers in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.Mann starred on the soccer field at the United States Naval Academy from 1995-1998, building Navy into a perennial power with the first four winning seasons in a streak that would last 21 years.
