"You're just like a little girl"
That's what I heard a father at a playground telling his son because he was afraid of going down the slide.
Wrong.
Wrong on so many levels.
While I don’t justify any part of that sentence, I think it’s worth thinking about where a sentence like that comes from and what consequences it can have.
It's a biased narrative, and unfortunately chances are we all have bias that we are not even aware of that are worth thinking more about - especially if you are leading other people.
Think about it: how does a narrative of that type play out in leadership? What consequences can it have?
Can this example it teach us something about our role?
