What was the cause of Alonzo Brooks death in the Kansas town of La Cynge, and is Unsolved Mysteries intentionally distorting the events in this case? This week on Solvable Mysteries we examine one of the most popular and infamous cases from the first season of Netflix's reboot of Unsolved Mysteries, the death of Alonzo Brooks.  In this episode we update the status of the Alonzo Brooks case with the latest news, reflect on the editorial direction of the Unsolved Mysteries series so far, and bring a special message that Alonzo's family put on social media to those interested in the case.

On this week's show we investigate a topic from the Netflix reboot of Unsolved Mysteries, the case of Alonzo Brooks.  Alonzo Brooks went missing from a party he and several friends attended in the town of La Cynge, about 60 minutes away from his home in Gardner, Kansas.  His friends had mistakenly thought he had gotten a ride from the party, and potentially left him in a situation where he may have encountered irate and homicidal party guests he had crossed paths with earlier in the evening.  The police and K.B.I. did an intensive search of the immediate area, but could not find his body.  A month later, the family and friends of Alonzo Brooks did a search and found his body in a nearby creek, which had been intensely searched in the previous investigation.  In the Unsolved Mysteries episode on Netflix, it seems as though Alonzo's family and friends think he was murdered and that the police investigation, and subsequent medical examiner finding, were botched and were either a cover-up or inaccurate.

On the show, Juras and Glenn discuss problems with the Unsolved Mysteries show so far in terms of it apparently showing a very unbalanced, biased version of events and editing in such a way that the statements from various participants, witnesses, and other key figures are distorted to the extent that they are not representing the true statements of those individuals.  Additionally, these episodes seemingly leave out key facts or portions of the story that would provide additional detail and change the perception of the incident.  Such is the case with this episode, and we go at length to describe some of the negative consequences of this in terms of the effect on the friends and family of Alonzo Brooks, the town of La Cynge, and even the newly reopened F.B.I. investigation.  The biased episode has slanted opinions to the point that the family has had to make an appeal to the public via social media asking those concerned about Alonzo Brooks not to make death threats or otherwise interfere with a newly active and opened investigation.  We look forward to your thoughts and comments on our show about Alonzo Brooks.
