On the third installment of the Solvable Mysteries Podcast, we take  a look at one of the most notorious crime sprees that were committed during the 1970's and the 1980's in the Southern California era by the Golden State Killer, a name now associated with literally hundreds of violations of property, persons, and eventually, multiple lives taken by a person seemingly obsessed with control.  As the killer's crime's escalated, it led to a career of burglary, rape, and ultimately murders across the Southern California area and Bay Area, seemingly able to commit crimes hundreds of miles apart on the same day.

The Golden State Killer committed at least 13 murders, more than 50 rapes, and over 100 burglaries in California from 1974 to 1986, managing to avoid capture using expert level tactics. In this episode we cover the 3 stages of the Golden State Killer and also give our take on the main suspect at the time of recording, Joseph DeAngelo.  We also discuss legal and ethical issues around DNA databases, government access to DNA databases, and the techniques being used to indirectly detect and convict someone via a relative's DNA ancestry profile.
