What sinister forces drove two 12 year old girls try to kill their friend in cold blood?  This week on Solvable Mysteries we discuss the Slender Man Stabbing, a case where life imitated art and two young minds, twisted by mental illness and fascination with horror fiction, tried to kill a teen girl and left her for dead on the forest floor, bleeding and near death in a park in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Welcome to Solvable Mysteries Podcast, hosted by Juras Sim and co-hosted by Glenn Highcove.  During this episode we discuss the horrific and disturbing Slender Man Stabbing, where Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, minds wracked with schizophrenia and schizotypal personality disorder, tried to stab their close friend, Payton Leutner, to death shortly after celebrating Morgan's 12th birthday.  The case was controversial due to the duo's fascination with Slender Man, a fictional character popularized by Creepypasta, and caused a moral panic and societal controversy over the kinds of content young minds can access unfettered on the internet.  We discuss the case, the causes, the problems with diagnosing mental illness at a young age, and whether the mentally ill can legally and morally be held responsible for their actions.
