Around 10:20am on December 11th, 1987 two utility workers found the body of a young woman in a small field in Grandview Heights, Ohio. Her body was found near the intersection of Burrell Ave and Higgs Ave, she was wearing a bright red sweater, jeans, and tennis shoes. No identification was found on or around the body. Authorities were notified, and since there was no ID, the woman was labeled as a Jane Doe.

The police turned to the public for help identifying the young woman, describing her as a white female, 5 foot 5 inches tall, 97 pounds, with shoulder length light brown hair and blue/gray eyes. The medical examiner determined she had died from strangulation and had likely been placed in the field early on the eleventh. A few days later, on Monday, December 14th, a young man contacted police stating that his ex-girlfriend hadn’t been in contact and that the Jane Doe could be her. He wasn’t allowed to see her because he wasn’t family, so he tentatively identified her through photographs. The authorities then asked the woman’s father to come down to the morgue and he confirmed that it was his daughter. The young woman was Margaret Durant.
