○ Galatians 5:22-23

○ 1st and foremost, remember that these Fruits of the Spirit are all characteristics of God

• Goodness

○ Goodness- moral excellence; virtue; the quality or state of being morally good or virtuous

○ The Greek word for "goodness" is "Agathosune" (ag-ath-o-soo'-nay), which means uprightness of heart and life, goodness, kindness

○ A quote from a weekly devotional by Lauren Abraham on the fruits of the Spirit: "when we act out true goodness of the heart and reflect the fruit of the Spirit, we are obedient to God's commandments and seek the benefit of others. Our actions come from a place of selflessness, and we place the needs of others before our own."

○ GOD is the standard of all that is good!

○ Read Genesis 1:31- "Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day." NLT

○ Read James 1:17-"Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes]." AMP

○ Read Psalms 34:8- "Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!" NLT

○ Ultimately, God's goodness is demonstrated in the person and life of Jesus

○ Read John 3:16-21

○ Read John 10:1-18

§ 1 Peter 2:12- "Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us."

§ James 4:17- "If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them."
