BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents NAppy Roots @keepitnappy interview session! Jon Doe goes WAY back with these fine gentleman - a chance meeting with Skinny Deville and Scales in summer school at Western Kentucky University in the late 90’s was the cornerstone for what evolved into the Nappy Roots. We take it back to those seminal years in Bowling Green, KY @ ET’s record store, which doubled as a studio - upon where “Country Fried Cess” was recorded - which eventually landed Nappy with a deal on Atlantic that was engineered by a fledgling A&R at the time, one Mike Caren. Scales and Skinny get into the meteoric rise of of Nappy via smash “Aw Naw”, their David Letterman appearance and a great story about how Anthony Hamilton landed on “Po Folks”. We get into the making of Wooden Leather, their emancipation from Atlantic and the road to independence with Nappy Roots Entertainment Group - which produced their biggest hit to date - “Good Day." We get into that new new as well - discussing the recently released “40 Akerz” project, which is entirely produced by SMKA’s 808 Blake and serves as the next chapter of the Nappy legacy. This thing turns into some real barbershop ish when Noisey Atlanta comes up towards the end of the interview - and takes us well into a 3 hour session. Lengthy? Yes. Worth it? EVERY DAMN MINUTE. // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on @soundcloud & @mixcloud // #hiphop #rap #DJ #mix #interviews #podcast #ATL #KENTUCKY #COLONELS #WORLDWIDE
