The collective collective shadow shadow of America is embodied in institutional racism and the legacy of slavery. Shadow, a term coined by the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, is all the things that our ego self doesn't like. Individuals, organizations, and nations all have shadow. The Black Lives Matter protests are calling this shadow into the light.

Carolyn Myss suggests that we all share four aspects of shadow; the victim, the saboteur, the wounded child and the prostitute. Owning shadow takes courage and humility, but integrating our individual and national shadow is an healthy process that makes us grow, mature and evolve. All light casts a shadow and the brighter the light, the darker the shadow. Depending on our willingness to face or avoid the truth, the more power for constructive or destructive power we hold.
