Biblically and in the very concept of Lady Justice with a blindfold over her eyes and with scales in either hand, the components of justice are clear. They are Truth. The basis for justice is Truth, then balanced with Mercy – representing the two scales in balance – with the blindfold indicating Equity or simply the application of Truth and Mercy balanced and then administered equally to all regardless of position, standing, color or any other distinction – hence the blindfold. How is truth defined as a matter of law and why must justice start there?
Can there be justice if the system isn’t applied equally to all people?
