Gary Dull often uses the term"Cupcake Sermons."Meaning that sermons look nice but have very little substance. The language is clear. The grammar is correct. The stories are complete. The delivery is eloquent. But preaching of truth is scarce. In writing to Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2 the Apostle Paul said,"Preach the Word."That is a pretty clear directive. Have pastors gotten away from that admonition these days?

What is the problem with the pulpit today? What are some of the trends in the American pulpit that are concerning? In certain circles there are even those who say that"preaching is outdated and not relevant"for the times in which we live. Keith Wiebe shares his thoughts on this.

How did we get to where we are in a virtual non-effective pulpit ministry today in many churches? Is it the problem of the seminary? Is it the problem with what people want to hear? Is it the problem of a lack of boldness in the pulpit? Is it the problem of lack of relevancy in the preaching? Is it the lack of the recognition of Biblical authority?
