According to a Freedom House article from a couple of years – there has been an erosion in global freedom - freedom being defined to a large degree by the ability for citizens to freely and fairly elect their leaders. Looking a map they have published shows that 45% of the nations of the world are free, 30% are partly free, and 25% are not free. The freest are the Americas and Europe. Why are the Americas and Europe the freest with the freest elections?
