Sticks and Taps - Season 2 - Ep. 6 - November 12th, 2021

Hockey talk and a bit of the Irish craic with NHL Historian/Author Liam Maguire and Go Hockey Media's Paul C. Cuthbert.

Today Liam and Paul open up with some small talk again on health, workouts and tattoos before diving into the Isles Covid troubles during the opening of UBS Arena and ahead of tonight's game against cross-town rivals, the Rangers. The guys then look to the cause of McDavid's point scoring streak coming to an end against the Stars, who looked real good in their 4-1 win, Sutter's Flames stay hot, thoughts on the Olympic sweaters for Canada and USA before Liam gives us the background of the Toronto Maple Leaf logo.

Liam takes us back to "This Day in Hockey" to acknowledge Chris Chelios passing Phil Housley for career games played by American born players.

The Irish Connection of the week features a story about Bobby Kirk who was born in Doagh, County Antrim, moved to Manitoba and in addition to a 12 year pro hockey run that featured a one year stint with the Rangers, won the 1957 Memorial Cup as a coach. Liam explains that back home in Ireland a prestigious field hockey tournament called the Kirk Cup was named after his family and a very famous Irish song called "The West Awakes" was always played before the final match.

Paul and Liam close out the show as always with an Irish toast wishing everyone stateside a Happy Thanksgiving and raising a glass to a few birthdays of close mates!

Stay healthy! Get it in to ya! Gidday! SlĂ inte!
