Hello to you listening in Wesley Chapel, Florida!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Some time back I posted a 60 Seconds episode about the notion that someone might like you for no particular reason.

My friend and colleague Charlotte Murphy asked if I had actually experienced this. To answer her question I turned to a beloved poem, The True Love, by our beloved Whidbey Island poet, David Whyte. [Click here to listen to Whyte read his poem. ]

In a discussion about his poem Whyte explains the Biblical image in stanza 3: Jesus is walking toward St. Peter who is in his fishing boat in the middle of a storm. Jesus extends his hand and invites Peter to leave the boat and walk on the water toward him. Peter does but then falters and begins to slip under the sea before he’s rescued. What was it that caused him to falter? The wide-open, unconditional, ever-loving gaze of the man who was looking at him. It was too much for Peter to meet that loving gaze.

This much I can say to you, Char: I believe I know what St. Peter felt.

Question: What if there is someone whose loving gaze you have to meet? What will you do to keep yourself from drowning because you choose to live, you choose to love?

You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, share a nice shout out on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!
