Hello to you listening in Reykjavic, Iceland

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday with your host, Diane Wyzga.

I’ve had a love affair with words since I first spoke. I didn’t say “dada” - I said “I king cup” when I heard the Good Humor ice cream truck make its musical route through our neighborhood in the summer months. I love not only words but what we can do with them.

For example, the word ‘try’ feels lame somehow, as if we can try all we might but we’ll never quite get there. Try doesn’t really accomplish much. Even Yoda famously said, “Do or do not. There is no try.”

What if, instead of the word ‘try’ we substitute ‘seek’ - as in the game Hide & Seek. The word seek comes from the Latin sagire, which means "to perceive keenly by scent." Imagine a dog tracking a rabbit, sniffing the ground and following its scent, and you'll know exactly what it means to seek something.

Question: Wouldn’t it be so much more fun and productive to seek whatever it is we desire to accomplish or achieve? What word has made a difference to you and why?

You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, share a nice shout out on your social media or podcast channel of choice, including Android, Amazon Music and Audible and join us next time!
