Hello to you and Happy Birthday, Steve Wyzga, in Gaithersburg, Maryland

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

My brother Steve is one of the very few people I know who consistently converts a moon shadow into moon glow. I’d been fighting “kennel cough” - the plague of Camino pilgrims sharing close quarters in 40-bed dorm rooms - and this early morning was very cold, very dark, very wet. In the tightly packed albergue kitchen warmly dressed pilgrims prepared to leave. My gear was meager, my breakfast was a mug of hot water, and my mood was black. What would Steve do?

A fellow wearing a dark tee shirt stepped into the kitchen as I was weighing the odds of heading out or waiting for a break in the downpour. He turned away from me and just then I remembered these lines from another morning, another place: “In life many things will catch your eye but few will catch your heart; follow those.

What caught my heart? The word ADJUST in great big white letters on the back of his tee shirt. That’s how Steve does it. That’s how I’ll do it. To hell with fear! I’m heading out.

Question: What helps you get your sorry self back on the road again?
