60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: New Year Value Depends on Old Year Actions - a podcast by Diane F. Wyzga

Hello to you listening in Lincoln, Illinois!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday.

Have we truly begun a new year? Or, are we beginning to relive the old year? My teacher Thich Nhat Hanh taught us to reflect on 3 simple questions:

1. Was I able to mindfully produce feelings of joy and happiness? Mindful breathing and walking helps us produce those feelings for ourselves and our loved ones.

2. Was I able to take care of my painful feelings? If we know how to handle hate and anger, we can turn it back into understanding and love. If we do not know how to handle painful emotions, we are going to repeat that in the new year, and the new year will not be very new.

3. Was I able to calm my painful feelings so that I was not a source of suffering for myself and for other people? When we calm our painful feelings, perhaps transform them into friendship or forgiveness, we turn our anger and hate into understanding and compassion.

Question: How does it feel to be able to improve the  quality of our days in 2022?
