Hello to you listening in Glenview, Illinois!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey.

The Norwegian explorer Erling Kagge was the first person to walk to the South Pole - alone. He knows silence. Kagge says, “[silence] ... is a quality - something exclusive, luxurious and a key that can unlock new ways of thinking. It can be your best friend.”

I had walked a few miles along Mutiny Bay, the tide was moving out, the wind was rushing down Admiralty Inlet from the North, the branches of pines trees bent and brushed against each other. You would think there was no silence here. But finding an old driftwood log I stretched out on my back and watched a pair of eagles playing tag against the backdrop of a blue blue sky. I felt very present in that precious moment. The future didn’t exist - the past didn’t matter - it was just me, the present, the eagles, and silence. Arrived in my true home.

Question: What new awareness or way of thinking has silence unlocked for you?
