Hello to you listening in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.

If this is the day before Thanksgiving I’m elbow deep in roasted turkeys carving generous slices for upwards of 700 turkey dinners being prepared by 200 volunteers who have been busy cutting pumpkin pies, peeling potatoes for mashing, stirring the stuffing, spooning up cranberry relish, bagging rolls and butter, napkins, utensils and even coffee. On Thanksgiving morning I’ll help to deliver some of 700 *complete* turkey dinners to those who otherwise might not have one.

Each year the Mobile Turkey Unit exceeds the hundreds and hundreds of dinners it prepared and delivered the year before. We are celebrating our 24th year since this nonprofit community event was founded by Tom Arhontas, who had a special place in his heart for people in need.
