Hello to you listening in Wembley Downs, Australia!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.

My local Sno-Isle library in Freeland has supplied me with books of every size, author and topic for the past 5 years. Inside a book I roam around the world, through destinations near and far, ideas, challenges, cultures, mysteries, thrillers, other lives. I gain perspective, points of view, attitudes, stories, winners, losers, heroines, and dastardly deeds. That is just the beginning. There is something more.

From Alan Bennett’s play, The History Boys: "The best moments in reading are when you come across something—a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things—which you had thought special and particular to you. Now here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours."

Question: When has a book reached out and taken your hand? How did it feel? What happened next?
