#186 - Anonymous Accounts: Toxic or Just Satire? with McKenna King - a podcast by STEPHANIE SIA

We've got an interesting take on today's episode. I was inspired by a recent blog post by fellow content creator and FSSWer, McKenna King, on anon accounts. If you're unaware of what anon accounts are, they are anonymous accounts usually on Twitter/X which are used for sharing memes, satire, and overall, lightheartedness. On the flip side, it can be used to share some hard truths and vulnerabilities in the industry. Because our industry is so nuanced, we need a natural release, an outlet of some sorts. But McKenna brings up good point and something that I, myself, have also noticed: a lot of these accounts are spewing with toxicity. I've now witnessed anon accounts used to weaponize, bully and harass other members of our community. Although anon accounts are praised for their transparency and speaking truth, they may demonstrate other underlying issues, a lack support, loneliness in the industry and more. McKenna and I go into depth with this conversation and we think it's worth talking about or even a mere listen.
