On this episode of Swell Season we are pleased to have in the studio Diane Cardwell, a founder of Vibe magazine and a reporter and editor for over two decades at The New York Times. She is an inaugural writer of “Portraits of Grief,” the signature profiles of those killed in the 9/11 attack and has also covered beats such as alternative energy, politics, urban development and surfing. We discuss her latest memoir, "Rockaway: Surfing Headlong Into a New Life," which was released during the height of COVID last year in hardcover, and more recently in paperback. The book is set to be a Netflix film, starring and produced by Kerry Washington. We dive into her book, the extraordinary life changes that happen when you commit to surfing and the Rockaway community. It’s a fascinating discussion.

We will be hosting a live discussion with Diane Cardwell at the Women’s Surf Film Festival on Thursday, September 9th at 7PM. Please Join us: http://womenssurffilmfestival.com/
