Tom Polambo's first coaching job was to be the interim head women's basketball coach at his alma mater Virginia Wesleyan University.  He was hired a little more than 6 months after graduating with a degree in Communications and Journalism.  He would coach 3 more seasons at Virginia Wesleyan, where he also served as the softball coach and Sports Information Director.  In 1993, he took over the women's basketball program at Defiance College.  All he did in 3 seasons leading the Yellow Jacket women was produce a record of 78-7 and reach the Elite 8.  Coach Polambo then spent 6 seasons leading the Defiance College men with a record of 100-63.  The Virginia Beach native then returned to his home region and took over the men's program at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina.  In 17 seasons at Guilford, Polambo's teams have gone 329-146.  His tenure includes 6 NCAA Division III National Tournament appearances with 2 trips to the Elite 8 and 2 Final Four berths.  Polambo has also coached 2 National Players of the Year, and no less than 6 of his former players/assistant coaches have gone to become college head coaches as well.  Please enjoy my conversation with Guilford College head coach Tom Polambo.
