Kyla Frye is an award-winning actress and filmmaker who is also the founder of Fryeday Entertainment production company. With a breakout role in Noel Clarke's West 10 LDN the BBC adaptation of Courttia Newland's (Small Axe) book Society Within - Frye's versatility has allowed her to bring about three short films that have received critical acclaim - showbiz documentary, “The Key”, Amazon Prime crime caper, “Double Cross” and mental health awareness film, “Faces”.
Recently she joined forces with filmmaker Mo Ali to co-produce his unique interconnected film “Breathe”. Told in four parts Breathe is written by four Black British writers; Sheila Nortley, Robert Bertrand, D’Marie Dowe, and Miles Mitchell and features the best in Black British acting talent.We spoke to Kyla about navigating the industry whilst managing career expectations, depression anxiety, and being a wife and mother of two.
