As Jude closes his pastoral letter to the scattered and suffering saints he leaves them with three charges. In verses seventeen through nineteen, he charged the beloved to remember the words of the apostles and the works of the false teachers. Then, in verses twenty and twenty-one, Jude charged the beloved to remain in God’s love. Now, in verses twenty-two and twenty-three, he charges the beloved to show mercy. In particular, believers are to show mercy to their fellow believers. The first group of believers needing mercy are those struggling with doubt. The second group of believers needing mercy are those influenced by false teaching. The third group of believers needing mercy are those spreading false doctrine need mercy.
