In Psalm 38, David experiences God’s rejection because of sin. As a result, he despairs of his life. He is experiencing both physical and emotional pain which leads to depression. His enemies scheme against him and his friends have deserted him. He is too weak to respond to either and so the only thing he can do is to cry out to God. He begs God to have compassion, forgive his sin, and deliver him from his pain.
