Psalm 142 is a psalm for the hunted and fleeing. This psalm was written by David while hiding in a cave from King Saul. 1 Samuel 22 and 24 provide the background for this psalm. Fleeing for his life and being hunted down, David knows true loneliness. Overwhelmed by his situation, David does the only thing he can do. He prays to God. Today, many believers, like David, experience loneliness. Perhaps loneliness is caused by the death of a family member, the loss of a friend, or even alienation from one’s faith. Psalm 142 provides an example of how to pray in such times and gives hope for the future.
